We take your privacy very seriously. This Privacy Policy describes how your personal information is collected, used, and shared when you visit tidymalism.com (the “Site”). This Privacy Policy applies to all information you submit to tidymalism.com, and all information collected through our Services and the Site.
Personal information we collect
When you visit the Site, we automatically collect certain information about your device, including information about your web browser, anonymised IP address, time zone, and some of the cookies that are installed on your device. Additionally, as you browse the Site, we collect information about the individual web pages that you view and information about how you interact with the Site. We refer to this automatically-collected information as “Device Information.”
We might collect Device Information using the following technologies:
- “Web beacons,” “tags,” and “pixels” are electronic files used to record information about how you browse the Site.
- “Cookies” are data files that are placed on your device or computer and often include an anonymous unique identifier. For more information about cookies, and how to disable cookies, visit https://www.allaboutcookies.org.
- “Log files” track actions occurring on the Site, and collect data including anonymized IP address, browser type, referring/exit pages, and date/time stamps.
When you leave comments on the Site we collect the data you entered in the comments form, and visitor comments are checked through an automated spam detection service, Akismet, to reduce spam. You can learn how your data is processed by Aksimet at https://akismet.com/privacy/.
An anonymised string created from your email address (also called a hash) may be provided to the Gravatar service to see if you are using it. The Gravatar service Privacy Policy is available here: https://automattic.com/privacy/. After approval of your comment, your profile picture is visible to the public in the context of your comment.
Additionally when you voluntarily provide us with personal information through our contact form, or when you subscribe to our newsletter, we collect that information from you, including your name and email address. We refer to this information as “Voluntarily Submitted Information.”
When we talk about “Personal Information” in this Privacy Policy, we are talking both about Device Information and Voluntarily Submitted Information.
VG Wort tracking
VG Wort cookies and metrics
We use “session cookies” from the Verwertungsgesellschaft Wort (VG Wort), Munich, to measure access to texts in order to record the probability of copying. Session cookies are small units of information that a provider stores in the RAM of the visitor’s computer. A randomly generated unique identification number, referred to as a session ID, is stored in a session cookie. In addition, a cookie contains information about its origin and the storage period. Session cookies cannot store any other data. These measurements are carried out by Kantar Deutschland GmbH using the Scalable Central Measurement Method (SZM). They help to determine the copy probability of individual texts for the remuneration of legal claims of authors and publishers. We do not collect any personal data via cookies.
Some of our pages are provided with JavaScript calls, through which we report accesses to the VG Wort. This enables us as authors to participate in the distributions of the VG Wort, which ensure the statutory remuneration for the use of copyrighted works in accordance with § 53 of the German Copyright Act.
Scalable Central Measurement System privacy
Our website uses the “Scalable Central Measurement Procedure” (SZM) from Kantar Deutschland GmbH to identify statistical parameters for determining the copy probability of texts.
Anonymous metrics are collected in the process. The access metric alternatively uses a session cookie or a signature, which is created from various automatically transmitted information from your browser. IP addresses are processed in anonymised form.
The procedure was developed in compliance with data protection regulations. The sole aim of the procedure is to determine the copying probability of individual texts.
At no time are individual users identified. Your identity always remains protected. The Scalable Central Measurement System does not target you with advertising.
Embedded content from other websites
Articles on this site may include embedded content (e.g. videos, images, articles, etc.). Embedded content from other websites behaves in the exact same way as if the visitor has visited the other website.
This site is protected by reCAPTCHA under Google’s Privacy Policy at https://policies.google.com/privacy and Terms of Service at https://policies.google.com/terms.
These websites may collect data about you, use cookies, embed additional third-party tracking, and monitor your interaction with that embedded content, including tracking your interaction with the embedded content if you have an account and are logged in to that website.
How do we use your personal information?
We use your Voluntarily Submitted Information to:
– respond to enquiries you have made through the Site;
– communicate with you;
– provide you with information relating to our services you have subscribed to.
We use the Device Information that we collect to help us screen for potential risk and fraud (in particular, your IP address), and more generally to improve and optimize our Site (for example, by generating analytics about how our visitors browse and interact with the Site, and to assess the success of our marketing campaigns).
Sharing your personal information
We use Google Analytics 4 (“GA4”) for aggregated, anonymised website traffic analysis. In order to track session usage, Google drops a cookie (_ga)
with a randomly-generated ClientID in your browser. This ID is anonymised and contains no identifiable information. We also send Google your IP address. We use GA4 to track aggregated website behaviour in order to understand website behaviour, such as what pages visitors look at and for how long. This information is important to us for improving the user experience and determining site effectiveness. You can delete your _ga
cookies in your browser. If you would like to access what browsing information we have, reach out to us via our contact form or by email at webmaster at tidymalism.com, and/or install the Google Analytics Opt-Out Browser Add-On.
We may process your data if you have given us specific consent to use your Personal Information for a specific purpose.
In the event that we have a members area requiring a password login and if you request a password reset for said login, your IP address will be included in the reset email.
Where we have entered into a contract with you, we may process your Personal Information to fulfill the terms of our contract.
We may share your data with third-party vendors, service providers, contractors or agents who perform services for us or on our behalf and require access to such information to perform that work. Examples include payment processing, email and newsletter delivery, customer service, hosting services, and marketing efforts.
Finally, we may also share your Personal Information to comply with applicable laws and regulations, to respond to a subpoena, search warrant or other lawful request for information we receive, or to otherwise protect our rights.
Do-not-track behaviour
Please note that we do not alter our Site’s data collection and use practices when we see a Do Not Track signal from your browser.
Media
If you upload images to the website, you should avoid uploading images with embedded location data (EXIF GPS) included. Visitors to the website can download and extract any location data from images on the website.
Cookies
If you leave a comment on our site you may opt in to saving your name, email address and website in cookies. These are for your convenience so that you do not have to fill in your details again when you leave another comment. These cookies will last for one year.
If you visit our login page, we will set a temporary cookie to determine if your browser accepts cookies. This cookie contains no personal data and is discarded when you close your browser.
When you log in, we will also set up several cookies to save your login information and your screen display choices. Login cookies last for two days, and screen options cookies last for a year. If you select “Remember Me”, your login will persist for two weeks. If you log out of your account, the login cookies will be removed.
An additional cookie will be saved in your browser if you edit or publish an article. This cookie includes no personal data and simply indicates the post ID of the article you just edited. It expires after 1 day.
Data retention
When you contact us through the Site, we will maintain your Voluntarily Submitted Information for as long as necessary to fulfill the purposes outlined in this Privacy Policy unless a longer retention period is otherwise required by law (such as tax, accounting, or other legal requirements).
When we have no ongoing legitimate business to need to process your Personal Information, it will be deleted.
If you leave a comment, the comment and its metadata are retained indefinitely. This is so we can recognise and approve any follow-up comments automatically instead of holding them in a moderation queue.
For users that register on our website (if any), we also store the personal information they provide in their user profile. All users can see, edit, or delete their personal information at any time (except they cannot change their username). Website administrators can also see and edit that information.
Minors
We do not aim any of our services or information at children under the age of 13, and we do not knowingly collect any data from children under 13 years of age.
Changes
We may update this privacy policy from time to time in order to reflect, for example, changes to our practices or for other operational, legal or regulatory reasons.
Your privacy rights
You have the right to receive information about the source, recipients, and purposes of your archived Personal Information at any time without having to pay a fee for such disclosures. You also have the right to demand that your data are rectified or deleted. If you have consented to data processing, you have the option to revoke this consent at any time, which shall affect all future data processing. Moreover, you have the right to demand that the processing of your data be restricted under certain circumstances. Furthermore, you have the right to log a complaint with the competent supervising agency.
If you are a European Union resident, you have the right to access personal information we hold about you and to ask that your personal information be corrected, updated, or deleted. If you would like to exercise this right, please contact us through the contact information below. If you have an account on this site, or have left comments, you can request to receive an exported file of the personal data we hold about you, including any data you have provided to us. You can also request that we erase any personal data we hold about you. This does not include any data we are obliged to keep for administrative, legal, or security purposes.
Additionally, if you are a European Union resident we note that we are processing your information in order to fulfill contracts we might have with you (for example if you contact us through the Site), or otherwise to pursue our legitimate business interests listed above.
This Site uses tools from companies outside the European Union, including Canada and the United States, such as Google Analytics 4, AdSense, and WordPress.
Data protection
You are advised that the transmission of data via the Internet (i.e., through e-mail communications or the world wide web) may be prone to security gaps. It is not possible to completely protect data against third-party access.
SSL and/or TLS encryption
For security reasons and to protect the transmission of confidential content, such as inquiries you submit to us through the Site, this Site uses either an SSL or a TLS encryption program. You can recognize an encrypted connection by checking whether the URL field of your browser switches from “http://” to “https://” and also by the appearance of a lock icon in the URL field.
If SSL or TLS encryption is activated, data you transmit to us cannot be read by third parties.
